| The Bourne Ultimatum |
||
I have to say as previously disclosed I am a sucker for a well direct action movie, but they must have a plausible story line, straight forward CGI without a tale is just simply bling. So based on the previous two movies the Bourne Ultimatum was a must see for me and the better half. I don’t shy away from bagging a movie if bagged it must be, but this is certainly not in that category. ACTION is the word. I think to appreciate this movie you really need to have watched at least one of the previous iterations. So if you have had that grounding this movie is just great. It’s a really great finale to the trilogy. As with the movies before it this movie is quite a ride, the scene is set in the first half an hour, which is really just a refresher on a few previous story lines, the reintroduction of some old characters and the introduction of a few new ones. Then the ride begins. Once again, Bourne is in the eye of the CIA, he is their ultimate scapegoat, he has been very useful as a hanger for a lot of mall practice snd judt plain bad ideas, killing him will clear all of those crimes from the books and save some high profile people from the ultimate embarrassment. Treadstone has been upgraded and called Blackbriar and the story has been leaked to a journalist, who has already published part of the story. The journalist is tailed and Bourne is found trying to communicate with him so he is assumed to be the mole. The character Pamela Landy, reappears, she was on the case in the Bourne Supremacy and knows Jason can't be the mole but she plays along. They initially can’t work out what Bourne is after. But it becomes clear that he is trying to work out who is the source of the story so that he can finally find out who he (Jason's lost his memory) is and how he came to be in this position. Bourne has always tried to avoid the CIA, but it has been the CIA who have continually pursued him and bought him back into the open where he must wreak havoc to protect himself. The movie turns into a chase to either kill Bourne or have their secrets exposed. Bourne also has some scores of his own to settle. The story line is the simplest of the series but it works just as well as before. This is not a sexy movie it’s quite raw but due to the 12+ rating there is no actual blood and guts but the hint is there and due to some masterly directing by Paul Greengrass that’s enough. There are plenty of car chases, car crashes are a must and the fist fights oh the fist fights. Jackie Chan could learn something from them, as far fetched as they are they are just about believable enough not to spoil the story. This is high action at it’s best the chase jumping through windows in Tangiers was very well done and the fight scene in the apartment even made me forget the ever so strong perfume of the lady in the row in front of me (did she spill the bottle I ask) and the kid eating a chinese meal in the other row. That apartment fight scene alone made the movie well worth the entrance fee. You have to congratulate Paul Greengrass for continuing this excellent series in the style of the director of the first movie (Doug Liman) building up to this the conclusion. Oliver Wood Cinematographer on all three movies also did a fantastic job. I won’t give away any more of the story line, so do your self a favour see this movie. But as I said it would be a better experience if you do see the Bourne identity and the Bourne supremacy before you go.
