A bit of an unexpected rest day today and a well earned one too. We had a bit of a lie in until 7:30 had a shower and as I was leaving the shower block the clouds opened and I was wetter than I had been before drying myself, fortunately that was all we had all day. Then we went in search of a grocery store and fuel stop.

Cable car - Wellington We were directed to a "Pak & Save" store and they had a really large selection, larger than anything we are used to in Albany that's for sure. They offer a 12 cent a ltr off the price of fuel deal and we took advantage for that the result was 87.9 cents a ltr which by my calculations is about 80 cents Australian and 32 UK pence a ltr for Diesel, not bad eh !

Then back to the camp and then into Wellington. We took the Cable car from the heart of the city up the hill to the Botanic gardens The cable car is important in Wellington's history as it enabled settlement on the cliffs overlooking the city which as I said before is very limited on space.

Cable Car - Wellington We wondered around the botanic gardens a bit and looked at the amazing views over Wellington and the natural harbour into the distance. Then back down the cable car and a bit of shopping in Wellington.

We took drastic step of looking for shoes, this time for walking boots. I am sworn off going shoe shopping with Jackie and am sure that is why we have been married for so long, she is a little difficult where shoes are concerned but this time I took a chance. I found some nice strong water resistant boots in the first shop and bought them, but even though she nearly took the plunge Jackie fell at the last post and walked out without any.Wellington - New Zealand

We wondered down the street for only a few shops and I spotted another shoe shop and as luck would have it they were in to "shoe prescriptions" where the staff are trained to using computer equipment and experience ensure as far as possible that the shoe fits the person. Amazingly the result was that Jackie walked out wearing yes even wearing a new pair of walking shoes. My ghast was totally flabbered I can tell you!

Then back to the Site and a very nice BBQ meal and bed.

Tomorrow the ferry............. Viwe over Wellington
